Essex is home to a range of incredible skate parks and scooter spots, perfect for skateboarders, scooter enthusiasts, budding BMXers and thrill-seekers alike.  In Essex there are parks that cater to all skill levels and riding styles. Whether your kid is a pro or just starting out, this guide will introduce you to some hidden gems.

Skateparks in Southend-on-Sea


Southend-on-Sea is a great family friendly destination. Many of the pathways along the Southend seafront are great for scooting and cycling. There are over 7 miles of seafront pathways between Leigh-on-Sea and Shoebury, which pass through Chalkwell, Westcliff-on-Sea, Central Southend and Thorpe Bay. The pathways are mainly flat and the views across the Thames Estuary make for a great stroll.


There are several seafront playgrounds in Southend-on-Sea. There are also seafront restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops along the route. There are public toilets in Chalkwell, Westcliff and Shoebury.


If you are looking for a designated Skate park in Southend, head to LOS (Leigh-on-Sea) Skatepark. LOS Skatepark was renovated in 2020 after funding and community consultation.


Leigh-on-Sea Skatepark can be found close to Leigh-on-Sea Station, so is a great option for those travelling Essex via public transport. LOS Skatepark is suitable for all ages and includes some more challenging ramps.


If you head to the other side of Southend DIstrict you can find Shoebury Park. Shoebury Park is located in the far East of Southend-on-Sea. There is a good size skate ramp and pump track at Shoebury Park. The skating and cycling areas are particularly good for smaller children.

There is also a great play area at Shoebury Park, as well as a duck pond and various other courts.

Chalkwell Park is another great skatepark for younger children in Southend-on-Sea. There are a few small ramps in the middle of the park. There are also two separate play areas, an enclosed toddler playground and a play area for older children.




Skateparks in Basildon


There are some great spots for scooting and cycling in Basildon including our top picks Northlands Park and Gloucester Park. Northlands Park has great facilities. There is a playground, duck pond and skate ramp, which are all in great condition.


The skatepark at Northlands Park is one of the biggest in Essex. There are several more challenging ramps, pipes and rails so this skatepark would be suitable for older children. The skatepark is next to outdoor gym equipment and a basketball court.


There is also a large duck pond at Northlands Park with an ornamental fountain which is good for scooting and cycling around. You can pick up duck feed from the cafe too.



There is an interesting playground at Northlands Park. The enclosed playground has a large ship climbing frame as well as other climbing frames, swings and balancing equipment. There are a good range of sensory boards



Gloucester Park in Basildon is a great spot for cycling and skating. The skatepark at Gloucester Park is great quality and very smooth. There are a great selection of ramps and pipes. There also also smaller ramps, great for little ones.


Gloucester Park is a large park with plenty of space across the playing fields, a duck pond and play area.



Skateparks in Chelmsford


There are some great family friendly spots for scooting, cycling and skating in Chelmsford. If you are looking for the best place for scooting and skating in Chelmsford, we recommend checking out Channels Drive Skatepark.

Channels Skatepark in Little Waltham is a large, purpose built skate park and is in great condition. Channels Skate Park is suitable for all ages, including beginners and small children. Channels Drive play area is also home to an adventure playground with several different play areas including a sandpit play area.

Central Park Chelmsford also had a great Skate Park with lots of interesting ramps and pools. There is also a pump track at Central Park, great for BMX fans. The skate area also had floodlighting. Other facilities at Central Park include a basketball court and playground.





Skateparks in Uttlesford


We love cycling and scooting at Great Dunmow Recreation Ground! There are large, well maintained playing fields at Great Dunmow Rec, meaning there is lots of space to explore. There is also a great skatepark and play area.


The skate park is huge. There is a variety of ramps to suit all ages. There are a number of challenging ramps including a half pipe. There are also many different types of rails and ledges at Great Dunmow Rec.



Great Dunmow has a children's play park. The playground is enclosed but there is still plenty of space inside the play area. Play equipment at Great Dunmow Rec includes a large climing frame with climbs suitable for toddlers as well as school aged children. There are a variety of other metal climbing structures (including a vehicles) and wooden climbing equipment.



Saffron Walden is home to some great skateparks. Great Chesterford Skatepark is a small skatepark, making it perfect for smaller children and scooters riders. The Great Chesterford skatepark is next to playing fields and courts. There is also an enclosed play area.


The One Minet Skatepark in is the bigger of the skateparks in Saffron Walden. The skatepark has interesting ramps and challenging skills area. This skatepark is suitable for BMXers as well as skaters and scooter riders.



Skateparks in Maldon


Promenade Park in Maldon has undergone several renovations in 2024. There have been big updates to the playgrounds including the Valley Play Area and the Secret Garden Play Area.

As well as a skatepark, there is also a great new BMX track. This popular river side park is really does have something for everyone. The park hosts interesting attractions such as a petting zoo, adventure golf and an amazing seasonal splash park.



Skateparks in Braintree Disctrict


Rayne Park is a great park in the lovely village of Rayne, Braintree. The park is located next to Rayne Village Hall, where there is free parking. Rayne park is great for BMXers and scooter fans as there is a pump track (suitable from beginners) and also a skate ramp.

There is also a play area at Rayne Park.





Skateparks in Rochford


The skate area at Hullbridge Recreation Ground in Pooles Lane was renovated this year. The skate park was newly built in summer 2024 and is a great park addition. The skatepark has a smooth edge, perfect for little ones to skate and scoot. There is also a large bowl area for more experienced skaters and bmxers.



There is a great nautical themed playground overlooking the River Crouch at Hullbridge Recreation Ground.



This playground has a large pirate ship with different climbs and slides. There is also an older red climbing frame with a slide. There is a large spinning slide, ride on equipment and swings.



Skateparks in Rayleigh


Rayleigh skatepark can be found at the edge of King Georges Park in Rayleigh. Rayleigh skatepark has a big variety of obstacles, ramps and pipes, making it suitable for children of all ages. The paving is smooth concrete and great for little ones.



Skateparks in Brentwood


There is so much to do at the King George's Playing fields. There is a great playground, which also has accessible play equipment. Other attractions include crazy golf, seasonable splash park and soft play. There is a great skatepark in Brentwood at King Georges Playing Fields Park.


Brentwood Skatepark has so many different ramps, across all levels. Brentwood skatepark often attracts more experienced BMX and skaters.



Skateparks in Ingatestone


Fairfield in Ingatestone is home to a playground, playing fields and small skate area. The skatepark has two large ramps and a smaller ramp and rails in the middle. This is a great skatepark for smaller children.




Skateparks in Billericay


Lake Meadows Park in Billericay has a great new skatepark, which was opened in JUne 2024 after a huge renovation. The large skatepark has great flooring and a variety of ramps and bowls.

Elsewhere at Lake Meadows Park there is a great play area, cafe and duck pond with duck food machine.



Skateparks in Boxted


Boxted Park can be found at King George Playing Fields on Cage Lane in Boxed. Boxted Park has great facilities. There are playing fields, several play areas and a sizeable skate area with large ramps.


The skatepark at King George Playing Fields can be found across the playing fields.




The skatepark consists of two larger ramps at each end of the skatepark, with a smaller ramp and rail in the middle. There are not many ramps for younger children but there is plenty of flat space for them to scoot and cycle around.



The play area in Boxted has an enclosed play area, which has a climbing frame with slide, swings, springy ride on equipment, seesaw and a smaller slide. There is also lots of equipment surrounding the enclosed play area, including balancing equipment, two in floor trampolines, tyre swing, roundabout and a large wooden log climbing frame.



Skateparks in Tiptree


Grove Road playground and skatepark in Tiptree has facilities for infants to teenagers. There are several play areas including an enclosed playground, unique balance obstacle course and playing fields.


The skate park is also a highlight of the park. The skatepark at Tiptree is large with a variety of ramps, and ledges for all ages. The smooth concrete flooring is also in great condition.
